With the aid of Rusolovo PJSC, monument to geologist and writer Oleg Kuvaev is unveiled in urban district Pevek

23.08.2023

With the aid of Rusolovo PJSC (a part of the Seligdar Polymetallic Holding), a monument to the geologist, geo-scientist and writer Oleg Kuvaev was unveiled in the urban district Pevek. The bronze monument of 5.5 metres high stands on the Yanrapaakenay Mountain with sweeping views over the town and Chaunskaya Bay in the East Siberian Sea where the first ever floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov is located.

The formal ceremony of unveiling of the monument and new modern urban space gathered the Head of the urban district Pevek Ivan Leyushkin, the President of the Seligdar Holding Konstantin Beirit, the President of Rusolovo PJSC Evgeniy Kolesov, and the Chair of the Board of Directors of Seligdar PJSC Aleksandr Khrushch, cultural figures and honorary citizens of the urban district Pevek.

The writer stands on a pedestal in the shape of a mountain, he wears an attire of a geologist just the same as he wore during the fieldwork when he led a geological 'party' (group) of the Chaunskiy district geological exploration department in 1958-1960.

The creator of the bronze monument is a Russian sculptor, full member of the Russian Academy of Arts Georgy Frangulyan. His most famous works include monuments to Bulat Okudzhava, Joseph Brodsky, Mikhail Bulgakov, Wall of Sorrow in Moscow and monument to Boris Yeltsin in Ekaterinburg.

Vladislav Kuznetsov, acting Governor of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug:

‘We consider being very important that companies such as Rusolovo pays much attention to support and development of the regions of their operations. Creation of the comfortable urban environment in small towns with up to 200 thousand citizens is one of the strategic priorities for the State in term of implementation of the national projects. I am sure that the new urban space will not only attract interest of the Pevek residents but also become a reason to visit Chukotka for citizens of other Russian towns’.

Konstantin Beirit, President of the Seligdar Holding:

‘I am very glad that thanks to the support of the Governor and the Town Administration we unveil today the monument to the writer Kuvaev in this beautiful place, on the mud cone with a magnificent view. After all, it was Pevek, which became a prototype of the famous ‘Settlement’ in the Oleg Kuvaev’s novel. I wish the monument to the author would become a cultural point, a point of attraction as for the citizens of the ‘Territory’ as well as for all the visitors. I wish it would become a piece of civilisation at the edge of our vast country’.

In 2020, Rusolovo PJSC won an auction for the development of the Pyrkakay stockworks, one of the largest tin deposit in Russia.
