Students of Russian universities learned how gold is mined

26.10.2022

More than 200 km had to travel a group of students as part of a practical excursion to the gold mining enterprises of the Seligdar Holding in the Aldan region of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The event was organised by the Russian society Znanie. As part of educational project of the society Znanie, prominent people conduct excursions for schoolchildren and students in the most unusual and unique places in our country. For the first time students were shown how the gold mining industry works.

In the near future, the lecture-excursion will become public: a film about the excursion will be produced and included in the series of films about the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The film on the gold mining company Seligdar PJSC will be available on VK social network’s pages of Seligdar PJSC and the Russian Society Znanie, as well as on the websites of the organisations.

This time the purpose of the excursion is to show Russian students modern technologies of gold mining, to introduce them to the profession of a metallurgist. The best students of the leading universities of Russia became the participants of the excursion. Sergey Tatarinov, Seligdar PJSC’s CEO, showed them the Ryabinovy production complex, told in detail and demonstrated the process of gold extraction: how the work is arranged in a quarry, how ore is crushed and processed, and the subsequent extraction of gold.

Further on, the participants of the excursion visited the Samolazovskiy production complex, where the first ever ore thermal treatment facility was installed. The uniqueness of the installation lies in the fact that it allows increasing ore gold recovery from 20-30% to 90%. Last year, this project was awarded with the ‘Mining Oscar’ at the MINEX Russia 2021.

Besides, Seligdar unveiled for the first time a new assay laboratory at the Aldan headquarters. The purpose of the laboratory is to assess the quality of currently processed ore and conduct proactive technological testing of promising ore. The total capacity is 1,000 samples per day.

'The gold mining industry is one of the important sectors of the economy, the foundation of Russia's economic stability. It's great that today there are such educational projects in the country that tell the younger generation, among other things, about important professions. I was pleased to see that the youngsters took part in the excursions with great enthusiasm and saw with their own eyes that the process of gold mining is both difficult and responsible, but interesting job. I hope that in the future they will connect their professional life with this industry and will work for the good of the country,' said Sergey Tatarinov.

Earlier, the Russian society Znanie held more than 150 educational lectures-excursions in 50 regions of Russia. They were organized with the participation of heads of regions and that of large companies in various parts of the country, including the Kaliningrad, Amur, Ivanovo and Belgorod regions, Sevastopol and the Kamchatka territory, the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous okrug. Excursions’ participants, schoolchildren and students visited such unique places as the Vostochny cosmodrome, the Valley of Geysers, the Kruzenshtern barque, the Konstantinovskaya battery and others.
